How I Stretch an $8 Bouquet into Multiple Arrangements

I love fresh flowers—especially during the cold, dreary winter months when everything outside feels a little lifeless.  Instead of keeping one big bouquet in a single vase, I like to divide it into smaller arrangements so I can enjoy little pops of color throughout my home. An $8 bouquet can go a long way when spread across multiple vases!

If I already have flowers from the week before, I pick through them, toss the dead ones, snip the stems, and refresh what’s left. Sometimes, I’ll mix in a few clippings from outside—anything green to add a little extra texture and fluff.

To keep flowers fresh longer, always trim the stems at an angle before placing them in water. Be sure to remove any leaves that would sit below the waterline—otherwise, they’ll encourage bacteria growth more quickly.

I’ve heard you can add a little bleach or crushed aspirin to the water to extend their life, but honestly, I never bother. My daughter actually did a science project on this in elementary school (my idea, of course! 😉), and if I remember right, it didn’t make a huge difference. She still insists it was the most boring science project ever!

Ideally, you should change the water every 2-3 days, but if you have just a few stems in a smaller vase, you can stretch it a bit longer.

A little fresh greenery can go a long way in brightening up your home—so don’t wait for a special occasion to treat yourself to flowers!
